In counseling, a professional counselor can listen to you and work with you to figure out what is going on. We will listen to you carefully and help you organize your thoughts.
I'd be in trouble if anyone knew that I was talking to you.
We will listen to you in a soundproof environment. We will not share the contents of your consultation with third parties without your permission. With your approval, we will make the necessary collaboration. Please feel at ease.
You don't need to prepare anything. You can make an appointment in advance before coming to the room to make the counseling process easier.
How do I make an appointment?
You can make an appointment by e-mail or through the application form on the Student Support Center website. You can also make an appointment for consultation at the counter depending on TUT activity standard.
Anyone who is a student of Toyohashi University of Technology can consult and use this service.
I am planning to take a leave of absence from school. Is it still possible?
It is possible. You can use the service until you graduate or leave the school. If you are away from Toyohashi, we also offer remote consultations. For remote consultations, we ask that you turn on your camera as much as possible.
Some people finish after one session, while others continue to come for a while. In some cases, the counselor may recommend continuing counseling. It is best to discuss this with your counselor.
It depends on how I feel then.
Some people go for a while and then start again after some time off. You can also change your counselor.
Any kind of consultation is fine. Don't keep it all to yourself, come and see us first.
I'm worried that you will think it's not a big problem.
There's no such thing as a big or small problem. There are some problems that seem simple but actually take a long time to solve. We are ready to discuss your concerns.
Counseling is by appointment only. Please use the application form on the Student Support Center website. You can also make an appointment by e-mail or phone. If the appointment is not booked, you can talk to the counselor on the same day.
How many days away is the appointment date?
You can make an appointment as early as the next day. If the appointment is busy, it may take about a week.
When you have just entered or transferred to TUT, you don't have anyone around you that you can talk to easily, and you feel more lonely.
How can I make friends?
If you are alone, it can be difficult to discuss classes and assignments. Why don't you take some time to reflect on your current situation and think about your own thoughts and feelings about "friends"?
I'm sorry to hear that you can't find anything you want to do.
At first, I was motivated.
I think there are various levels of “I don't feel like doing anything.” Come and talk to us about being motivated.
Your words hurt others even though you don't mean to. You may have a desire to change yourself.
I made a mistake the other day.
I think there are hints about your interpersonal habits and how to improve them in your failure stories. Why don't you start with those stories?
Have you lost your confidence because you are not good at being in front of people? Have you always been uncomfortable in front of people because you lack confidence?
It may be both.
The two phenomena may be mutually reinforcing each other. There will be many opportunities to make a presentation in public. Why don't you try to find a way to get through it in your own way?
Either you' ve lost your confidence because you're not good at public speaking, or you've always lacked confidence, so you're not good at public speaking...which is it?
Write down your schedule on a calendar or something. You can also use the reminder function on your cell phone. Asking someone else who is taking the same class may be a good idea as well.
Hmm, I don't think I can.
I think you're right. You can't do it straight away. Why don't we try to figure out how to do it together and try different things in the counseling room?
If the class you failed is a required subject, you should change your mind and take it again the following year. If it is possible to substitute another subject, you can take it. You can consult and check your course schedule at the Educational Affairs Division.
I see. But that class is so difficult, I don't think I can get credit for it.
The Student Support Center also has a study support coodinator. Let's find out what we can do.
Why don't you tell your supervisor about your situation? Thinking on your own is an important task, but talking to your supervisor, who has dealt with many students, may open up a path for you.
But it's hard for me to tell my supervisor.
We can work with you to figure out how you can connect with your supervisor. If you feel uncomfortable talking to your supervisor, please use this center.
You are thinking seriously about your own future. If you write down the advantages and disadvantages of going to graduate school and getting a job with an undergraduate degree, you may be able to see some things.
I don't want to bother writing it down.
It might be helpful to ask your peers and seniors why they decided on your career path. We also encourage you to talk to your counselor.
It's okay. There are English-speaking staff at the Student Support Center. Please don't hesitate to visit us. We can connect you to the Student Affairs Division, the International Affairs Division, the Educational Affairs Division, etc. after we have heard your concerns.
The Student Support Center has a list of nearby hospitals. We can also refer you to hospitals in cooperation with the Health Care Center.
I can't speak Japanese.
There are hospitals that will take care of you even if you do not speak Japanese, but there are also hospitals that require you to be accompanied by a Japanese interpreter. It is a good idea to check before you go to see a doctor. If it is difficult for you to check, you can contact the hospital from the Student Support Center.
You will need proof of your identity with a photo (such as your residence card), your health insurance card (medical card for JICA international students), and cash. If you have an appointment, please arrive at the hospital a little before the appointment time. If you are anxious because it is your first time to see a doctor, it is a good idea to have a friend or someone accompany you.
Get on the bus through the back door. When you get on the bus, the machine will issue you a piece of paper with a number on it. Take that piece of paper and sit where you want.
When do I have to pay?
You pay the fare when you get off the bus. There is a notice board in front of your seat that shows the price. When you get off, check the price from the number written on your paper. Then put the money into the payment slot set up next to the driver.
Some international students seem to think that they should not talk about anything other than their research to their academic advisors because of their past experiences in their home countries. TUT professors understand that international students may encounter various difficulties in matters other than research. Just try to communicate with them. They will be a good person to talk to.
It is not always easy to know what you are suited for. In such cases, remembering your past decision-making experiences may give you a clue.
I'll try. But I don't know how to do it alone.
At the career counseling, you can consult with us about how to prepare for job hunting. We can think together.
From the perspective of career development, you can start at any time. Try to participate in the guidance and lectures held by your department or student affairs office. During the application period, you can apply to companies you are interested in. In the early grades, it is a good idea to experience many things in the world.
I feel like I'm late to the job hunt.
Recently, more companies are hiring year-round. We encourage you to actively utilize career counseling.
In a job interview, it is important to communicate yourself in an easy-to-understand manner. The questions you will be asked can be predicted to some extent. So just be prepared and you will be fine.
I feel like I'm probably too nervous to speak well.
You don't have to talk well. However, you will be expected to talk confidently (or as confident as you can be) and respond in a way that gets the point across. At the job counseling, we explain the key points of interviews and provide interview practice. If you are unsure, let's practice together!
You can purchase the resume at the Welfare Facilities kiosk. If you want electronic data, please convert it to PDF format.
Letters of recommendation are issued by each department. Please follow the instructions of the faculty member in charge of job hunting.
Who is the faculty member in charge of job hunting?
The faculty members in charge of job hunting activities for this year are listed on the university's website.
That is very painful. What has been going on with you and what has been going on around you? Depending on what is going on, there are different ways to ease your pain.
Maybe people don't like me. I feel like I'm being rejected.
Can we talk about what it was like before and what the situation is like now? I would like to listen to your story in detail and work with you to find a way to cope and find a solution. Can I talk with you in the counseling room?
How long has that been going on? If things were going well before, it could be due to the effects of a change in environment such as going to university.
Actually, it started when I was little.
I see. So you've been living in a stressful environment.
By examining your relationship with your family, you may be able to find a distance that works for you now.
You may be trying to relieve stress by "eating. Why don't you try different ways to relieve stress, such as taking a walk, listening to your favorite music, trying breathing exercises, and stretching? You may also find this helpful.
I've tried everything, but I still eat them.
That's right. It may be a disease of the body such as an abnormal metabolism, or it may be a hidden stress that you are not aware of. Why don't you come to our office once to find out the reason and cause of your hunger?
